Letter: Our November vote

Our November vote

Back in my high school teaching days we put together a trial of Gen. Benedict Arnold. Was he a traitor or hero? (We had super community resources. The judge was an attorney who practiced before the Supreme Court, while the defense and prosecution attorneys were also real. Gen. Arnold just happened to be an historian.)

The jury of 12 students took their roles seriously. This event came to mind while considering what will, in reality, be a trial of sorts when in November we citizens eligible to vote will decide the future of the United States of America. Will we carry on our experiment in democracy or adopt an imperialistic form of government? Hear ye, hear ye, the court will come to order on the first Tuesday following the first Monday of November. Oh, yes, at our trial the jury found Gen. Arnold to be guilty of treason.
