Letter: Death with dignity

I was extremely disappointed with Rep. Ouellet’s change of position regarding the current “death with dignity” bill before the New Hampshire House of Representatives. Both of my parents, my dad was age 92 and my mother was age 89, chose to end their lives with dignity. They both died in their Vermont home that they had lived in since exchanging vows in 1935. They both had gotten very ill and could no longer stay at home. They made the decision to end their lives in the comfort of their home, not in some sterile hospital or nursing facility. It was also a decision that they had shared with their three sons, twenty (20) years prior to the “event.”

We all endorsed and agreed with their wishes. They died peacefully at home as per their wishes with the help of a mindful medical community. Rep. Ouellet, I read that you changed your position because of your religious faith, Catholicism. I respect your faith but you represent all the citizens of Coos County District 03 and your personal feelings and views should be put aside.
