Letter: Lost tradition?

In 1979, our family moved to New Hampshire. My wife and I were introduced to, and impressed by, the fundamental democracy of New England town meetings. Issues are discussed, votes are taken and everyone goes home to accept and live by the decisions made. At the national end of the U.S. political scale, I’ve marveled at the tradition of the peaceful transfer of power after a presidential election, until 2021.

With one selfish act by a self-centered egoist that very special aspect of our political life has been made “iffy.” To reestablish that 200+ year tradition in our republic will require an unequivocal push back this November at the ballot box against those negative forces that undermine our faith in our electoral system. Vote as if the republic’s survival depends on it. Because it does!
