Letter: Trump is responsible for the attack on reproductive rights

Former President Trump is trying to alleviate his direct responsibility for the attacks on reproductive rights caused by the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Mitch McConnell paved the way by flouting decades of precedent when he refused to allow former President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, to go forward until after the 2016 election. Trump was then able to put Brett Kavanaugh on the Court. Again , with the help of McConnell, Trump was able to ram through Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett shortly before President Biden’s inauguration. Both of those justice’s voted to overturn Roe.

Now Trump claims this is what everyone wanted, a return to state’s rights. Well I don’t think everyone wanted that. Before Roe was overturned by the Trump Supreme Court, most people thought the right of a woman to choose her medical care was protected. Not so fast, the anti-reproductive rights gang has now been able to enact a 6-week prohibition in Florida, outlawed it in Arizona and placed IVF procedures in jeopardy in Alabama. These are only a few of the most egregious restrictions that have been enacted since Roe was overturned. Here in NH, thankfully, HB 1248 was defeated, which would have replaced our 24 week ban with a 15 day ban. The Trump Supreme Court is now mulling a far right fringe argument to outlaw the morning after pill. They will not stop and Trump is responsible. Don’t you forget it.
