City A tennis tourney

In the City A singles final, fourth seed Tomas Gonzalez outlasted second seed Andy Day, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, in a grueling match that lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes to win his first City A title. In the doubles final, the number one seeded duo of Mark Blaisdell and Day survived a three-set marathon to defeat Dave Hall and Gonzalez, 5-7, 7-5, 6-1.

Youth track & field results

24 Concord Flyers competed in an open meet at Merrimack Valley High School, scoring 13 first place finishes. Quinn Doherty, 7, was first in the 100 and 200, while 8-year-old Maddie Beauregard grabbed second in the shot put. Rachel Hiltz, 9, captured first in the 100 and the javelin and Caitlin Corrigan was first in the 200 and second in the 100. Whitney Vaillant, 10, came in first in the 100, 200 and the long jump, while Sophia Kitchens secured first in the shot put and Kayla Clark-Toy was second in the 100 and 200. Ayva Mullen snagged first in the 100, 200 and long jump, while Ava Philbrook took first in the 400 and second in the 100 and 200. Kendall Barton was second in the long jump. Hannah Willette finished second in both the open 800 and 1600.

Skeleton Scramble

The 3rd Annual Skeleton Scramble fundraiser is taking place on Aug. 20 at Beaver Meadow Golf Course in Concord at 10 a.m. The fundraiser is to help local Skeleton athlete, Kyle Brown, as he prepares to try to make the 2018 Olympic Team this fall. Visit kylebrownskeleton.com to register today.

Golf result

Norm West led his playing partners into the winners circle in the Four-ball event at the Concord Country Club. West shot a nine under par round of 61 with three different partners. Teaming up with West were Don Young, Jon Ruggles, and Ken Plumb. Jon Ruggles teamed up with Ken Plumb to take second place with a round of 62. Three teams tied for third with matching scores of 63. They were Mark Puffer and Bill Norton, Don Young and Ken Plumb, and John Sullivan and George Chase. Gretchen Knapton won the “Throw out Three” tournament with a round of 52.

Tryouts/Registrations

Concord High School fall sports online registration will be open through Aug. 1. Athletes must register online within this timeframe.

Rundlett Middle School fall sports online registration closes on Aug. 8. To register, sign into your PowerSchool Parent account at https://ps.sau8.or go directly to the CHS or RMS website. Look under the athletics tab for further directions. Tryouts and practices for boys’ and girls’ cross country (grades 6-8), field hockey (grades 6-8), boys’ and girls’ soccer (grades 7-8) and volleyball (grades 6-8) start on Aug. 31.

Bow Recreation Ultimate Frisbee will have games this fall for grades 5-8. Games are played Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. at Gosling Field in Bow. Registration is required through Bow Recreation. For more information call 228-2222.

Concord Recreation boys middle school basketball league will be held on Sundays through July 30 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Green Street Community Center. League is 3-vs-3 and is for boys in grades 6-8.

Concord Cannons Elite Baseball League Travel Program will be conducting tryouts for the 2017-2018 season on Aug. 12 for ages 10U-12U at NHTI in Concord from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tryout cost is $30. Included in the 10U-12U tryout fee is two pre-tryout workouts with Program Director Bryan Caruso on Aug. 8 and Aug. 10 at Concord Sports Center. The 13U-16U Cannons tryouts will be held on Aug. 13 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at NHTI.

Seacoast United Cubs baseball will host tryouts for their 2017-18 travel teams on Aug. 15-16, with the 9U/10U team meeting from 5-6:30 p.m. and the 11U/12U team at 6:30-8 p.m.. Tryouts are $30 per player and include a Seacoast United Cubs t-shirt. The Seacoast United Concord Indoor Facility is located at 10 Ferry Street in Concord. Events

2nd Annual World Run-Paddle Biathlon Championship will be held on July 23 at the NHTI Boat Ramp starting at 10 a.m. Participants may do both the running and paddling solo, or compete with a teammate. The race kicks off with a 4K trail run and finishes with a 4K flat-water paddle. Contact twalton@nedelta.com for more information.

Concord Catholic High School Athletic Hall of Fame nominations are being accepted until July 31. Anyone who graduated from St. John or Bishop Brady High Schools, and all coaches and supporters, can be nominated for induction. CHaD Battle of the Badges Baseball Classic is scheduled to be played under the lights at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. The contest, which pits police officers against firefighters, raises money for the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and will be sponsored by Faro Italian Grille in Laconia.

Boscawen Old Home Day Golf Classic will be held at the Den Brae Golf Resort in suburban Sanbornton on Aug. 24 with a shotgun start (minus the shotgun) at 9 a.m. Foursome fee is still only $360 and includes 18 holes of golf with cart, continental breakfast, chicken barbeque dinner and lots of prizes.
