Pickleball results

Several local athletes competed in the New Hampshire Senior Games Pickleball Tournament. Some of the athletes earned medals in the largest-ever field to compete in the tournament. Penacook’s Goldie Anderson and Bow’s Sue Withers won the women’s doubles gold medal for their age group, while Concord’s Jonsey Rainville earned a silver in a different age group with doubles partner Susan Nelson from Alton.

In men’s singles, Newbury’s Glenn Dudley earned a gold medal in his age group and Concord’s Tim O’Shea earned a bronze.

In men’s doubles, Penacook’s David Anderson and Concord’s Dave Stevenson earned a gold medal, as did Dudley with Moultonborough’s Jim Leiterman. Concord’s Ken Moulton and Paul Zaffini earned a silver medal and New London’s Paul Lazdowski Grantham’s Tom Youngholm won a bronze.

Multiple local teams won gold medals in mixed doubles including Concord’s Jonsey Rainville and Bo Rainville, Concord’s Jackie Moulton and Ken Moulton, Concord’s Dave Stevenson and Bev Oram (Greensboro, Ga.), and Concord’s Fred LaFontaine and Goffstown’s Gloria Benjamin. Bow’s Sue Withers and Concord’s Dan Morin won silver.

Softball tryouts

The N.H. Lady Cannons softball program will be holding tryouts for its 10U, 12U, and 14U teams on Aug. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at the Concord Sports Center on 2 Whitney Road. Tryout fee is $25. No pre-registration required. If you are interested in trying out please contact director Whitney Roberts at 733-6096 to set up a private tryout.

Hoops officials needed

The N.H. Basketball Officials Association is seeking applications from individuals interested in officiating high school basketball. NH Comets travel softball organization will be holding additional tryouts for its 14U team on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Dillon Field, and its 16U team on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.) at the same location. Contact Rob Rochette at 244-9733 with any questions.

Concord Cannons Elite Baseball League Travel Program will be conducting tryouts for the 2017-2018 season on Saturday for ages 10U-12U at NHTI in Concord from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tryout cost is $30. Included in the 10U-12U tryout fee is two pre-tryout workouts with Program Director Bryan Caruso on Tuesday and Thursday at Concord Sports Center. The 13U-16U Cannons tryouts will be held on Sunday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at NHTI.

NH Lightning USA/ASA softball is holding assessments for all of its fall 2018 Class A fast pitch teams at Martin Field in Concord on Sunday and Aug. 20. Visit nhlightning.org.

Seacoast United Cubs baseball will host tryouts for their 2017-18 travel teams on Aug. 15-16, with the 9U/10U team meeting from 5-6:30 p.m. and the 11U/12U team at 6:30-8 p.m.. Tryouts are $30 per player and include a Seacoast United Cubs t-shirt. The Seacoast United Concord Indoor Facility is located at 10 Ferry Street in Concord. Derry Spartans basketball tryouts for their fall teams will be on Aug. 17 at Sportszone. Boys and girls in grades 3-6 have tryouts from 5:30-6:30 p.m., grades 7-8 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and high school players from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Visit nhsportszone.com.

Cap City Basketball tryouts will be held for the Cap City Select Travel/AAU team, Fall League (Concord), 3 vs. 3 Full-Court League (Manchester), and the Skills and Drills Group (Concord or Manchester). Bow Recreation Ultimate Frisbee will have games this fall for grades 5-8. Games are played Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. at Gosling Field in Bow. Registration is required through Bow Recreation. For more information call 228-2222.


CHaD Battle of the Badges Baseball Classic is scheduled to be played under the lights at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Friday at 6 p.m. The contest, which pits police officers against firefighters, raises money for the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and will be sponsored by Faro Italian Grille in Laconia.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Golf Tournament will be held on Friday at Duston Country Club in Hopkinton, beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The format is a four person scramble and the entry fee is $75 per person, or $300 per foursome which includes lunch, and proceeds will go to the JDRF. 12th Annual Andover Lions Golf Classic will be on Sept. 12 at the Country Club of New Hampshire in Sutton. The tournament is a four-person scramble format. Any number of players up to foursomes will be accepted. Please indicate the field of competition for your entry (Open Competition, Ladies Competition, or Senior Competition). Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the tournament starts with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $85 per person or $320 for a foursome. Extra shots are $5 each. An awards ceremony will be held immediately after the tournament is completed and all scores are posted. There will be prizes for first place teams as well as men’s and women’s drive closest to line and closest to the hole.
