High school volleyball

The John Stark boys’ volleyball team lost to Hollis/Brookline, 3-1. The Cavaliers won the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-20, before the Generals won the third, 25-15. Hollis/Brookline won the fourth set, 25-16, to secure the win. “We have never given up and have stayed positive throughout each and every match. I am very proud of the way this team has performed,” John Stark coach Jeff McClellan said. The Generals fell to 1-4, while the Cavaliers improved to 2-1.

The Coe-Brown boys’ volleyball team lost to undefeated Timberlane in straight sets, 25-11, 25-9, 25-22. Derek Capo (three kills, three blocks), Michael McKinney (four kills) and Albert Lapiejko (five assists, two kills) led Coe-Brown. The Bears dropped to 0-2 while the Owls improved to 3-0.

Plymouth State result

Loudon’s Zel Kerkel, a junior goalie on the Plymouth State men’s lacrosse team, made eight saves to preserve the Panthers’ 10-9 win over Massachusetts Maritime. Connor Delea (four goals) and Griffin Jacobson (two goals, two assists) led the Panthers.

College standout

Concord’s Hannah Hirschfeld, a senior on the Bowdoin women’s lacrosse team, was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week. Hirschfeld led the Polar Bears with five second-half goals (including the game-winner) and three assists in a come-from-behind victory over Wesleyan on Saturday. Hirschfeld also registered a goal and assist in a game against Colby earlier in the week.

Camps/Clinics/Lessons

Seacoast Express United Spring Rec Soccer will hold a six-week clinic on Saturday mornings at NHTI. Clinic for grades pre-K through two will run through May 19. Cost is $35 per player. Free SUSC Nike T-shirt included. Contact Darrell at dbetley@seacoastunited.com for more information.

Cap City Basketball Spring Skills & Drills clinics will be held every Tuesday through May 29. Clinics for boys and girls age 4 through fifth-grade beginners are from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and advanced fifth-grade through ninth-grade players will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. All clinics will be held at the Concord Boys & Girls Club at 55 Bradley Street. Cost for all seven sessions $150 pre-paid online, or $160 at the door. Single-day sessions cost $25 in advance or $30 at the door.

Concord Parks and Recreation golf camp is April 24-27 for kids ages 12-16. The camp includes a junior membership for the golf season. Space is limited. Register at concordparksandrec.com.

Bow Recreation free field hockey clinic for grades 3-4 on May 18 from 2:30-4 p.m. at Bow Elementary School. The clinic will teach the fundamentals of field hockey. Sticks will be provided and players should dress accordingly. Running shoes, mouth guards and shin guards are required. To register, call 223-3920.

Plymouth State basketball annual summer youth basketball camp will be held from June 25-28 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The camp is designed for boys and girls of all skill levels, ages 7-16. Tuition is $195 for the four-day camp, which will be directed by current women’s and men’s basketball coaches, Allison Flynn and Andrew Novick, along with current and former players and coaches in the local area. Host families needed

Winnipesaukee Muskrats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League are looking for local families to host players for the upcoming summer season. Players typically range from 19-22 years of age and will arrive the first week of June and leave the first week of August. Host families are asked to provide a spare room with a bed, access to shower and laundry facilities, and occasional meals for their player – typically breakfast. Transportation is not required. Host families are offered free season tickets for their entire household, three free weeks of baseball camp for their children, free admission to all other NECBL venues, and access to special events before and during the season. Concord Post 21 summer baseball team will be holding tryouts for its senior team (ages 16-19) from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on May 6 at the Concord Sports Center. Concord Flyers Girls Track & Field program will be opening its 27th season on June 4. The program runs from June through early August and is for girls age 7-15. Practices will be held at Memorial Field in Concord on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m. There will also be practice meets Sunday mornings in June from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. On Thursday evenings during July, the program participates in open track meets at Merrimack Valley High School at 6 p.m. The fee for new team members is $90 (uniform included) and $80 for returning team members. Paddling film festival at Red River Theaters in Concord on Wednesday showing Rapid Media’s Paddling Film Festival on Thursday. Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. The cost is $12 online, $15 at the door and $10 for students.

Belmont High senior Wyatt Paquin has been invited to represent New Hampshire on the Down Under Sports golf team in Queensland, Australia on July 5. Paquin will have a chance to compete for both individual and team championship titles, but is required to cover the cost of the 10-day trip.
