When asked what roller derby meant to them Saturday evening, area skaters using their derby names talked about strength and empowerment, but they also talked about family and sisterhood. “It’s home. It’s my favorite thing,” said Lil Sumpin’ about her Granite State Roller Derby league and Fighting Finches team. Thunder BOOM-hER, another league member on the Demolition Dames team said “roller derby for me is an escape, it’s a family and it’s hard work and commitment and dedication.”

Both the Monadnock Roller Derby and Granite State Roller Derby leagues played bouts at home Saturday evening. The Monadnock Mad Knockers took on the Southshire Battle Cats at the New England College arena in Henniker and the Granite State Fighting Finches and Demolition Dames faced off at Everett Arena in Concord.
