Learn about rescuing dogs and bring them to the state

∎ The Concord Public Library will host author Peter Zheultin on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. He will talk about his book Rescue Road, which is a remarkable story about Greg Mahle, who has driven more than a million miles in the past 10 years bringing thousands of lost, abandoned and “death row” dogs to New England. ∎ Concord Hospital’s Center for Health Promotion will offer a parent preview class Tuesday with openings at 5 or 7 p.m. This is an informational program designed to update you on maternity services and programs and what to expect during your hospital stay. Authors flock to Gibson’s to talk poetry, new novels

∎ Michelle Arnosky Sherburne will share how New Hampshire was once a hotbed of abolitionist activity Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Gibson’s Bookstore.

∎ Gloria Norris will visit Gibson’s on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to share her memoir of her childhood in New Hampshire, KooKooLand.

∎ April is National Poetry Month! A poet showcase will be held April 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Gibson’s Bookstore.Presenting poets include Hope Jordon, Dudley Laufman, L. Berger, Mary French, Deborah Brown, Don Kimball and Neil English.

Celebrate spring with classic ham, bean supper

∎ Jump into spring with a classic New England ham and bean supper at East Congregational Church April 9 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The menu includes two kinds of homemade beans, baked ham, brown bread and rolls, coleslaw, casseroles and a dessert buffet.
