The Northeast Resource Recovery Association (NRRA), the largest and oldest cooperative-model recycling nonprofit in the United States, enables communities to manage their own recycling programs, in part, through its recycling education and technical assistance work. This fall, NRRA successfully wrapped up its Recycling Tools of the Trade project, made possible by a grant from the Rural Utilities Service, United States Department of Agriculture. New Hampshire law states that each town must “provide a facility or assure access to another approved solid waste facility for its residents,” regardless of how big – or small – a town may be. NRRA partners with 85% of all towns and cities in NH, working primarily with small, rural municipalities. Through the Recycling Tools of the Trade project, NRRA launched several new recycling and solid waste diversion tools and resources with small towns in mind.

Merrimack County Saving Bank (The Merrimack) announces the promotion of Brad Kulacz to Senior Vice President, Senior Retail Banking Officer. Brad, who succeeds Mary Lynne Rahlson in her retirement, now leads Retail Banking across all of The Merrimack’s eight locations.

New Balance, based in Boston, adds Londonderry, New Hampshire to its New England locations for its sixth U.S. athletic footwear manufacturing facility. New Balance’s $70 million investment in the factory will add more than 150 jobs at the 102,000-square-foot single-story building that is planned to begin production in 2025.

Meredith Village Savings Bank (MVSB) has joined local community efforts to support the Ramblin’ Vewe Farm in its recently-completed 43-acre property purchase in Gilford. The land, which borders Ramblin’ View Farm, was previously owned by Dr. Leo and Polly Sanfaçon, who allowed the farm to create and maintain trails for community use. When the land was listed for sale, the Farm’s trustees approached the Town of Gilford Conservation Commission, who preliminarily agreed to share half of the sale price provided Ramblin’ View Farm could raise half. The Farm was ultimately successful and the Town of Gilford, in a public meeting, approved to contribute the other half from the Town’s Conservation Land Fund.

The First Baptist Church of Lower Gilmanton recently received a generous grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s Globe Community Fund. This grant will be used to help complete the final phase of restoration of the Church. The exterior work includes repairing/replacing clapboards, fascia, window sills, scraping, priming and painting exterior.
