Player of the Week

Bow High School boys’ hockey team forward Doug Champagne scored the game-winning goal in the Division II semifinals and added two more scores in the state title contest on Saturday on his way to being named the Monitor Player of the Week.

After notching the winning goal in the Falcons’ 2-0 victory over No. 3 Windham during Wednesday’s semifinal, Champagne was at it again in the finals, finding the back of the net in the first period, and again in the second to give Bow a 3-0 cushion that it used to turn back previously unbeaten and top-seeded Keene, 4-2, in the championship game at SNHU Arena.

Bow (18-2-1), which had lost to Keene twice during the regular season, was hoping to see the Blackbirds (19-1) again in the championship game and didn’t squander its chance at revenge. Champagne’s scoring touch helped the Falcons get over the hump and notch the program’s second state title – it’s first since defeating Oyster River in 2010.
