To our readers: The first Weekender is here, and check out our new app

For the past several weeks, we’ve been alerting readers to a big change coming in their daily paper. Today, we’re publishing our first Weekend Edition of the Concord Monitor. It’s four pages bigger than the traditional Sunday Monitor and it includes lots of New Hampshire news and sports. You’ll also find your regular features from travel and history to books and business.

The biggest question we’ve faced in recent weeks is about our puzzles and comics. Two days’ worth of puzzles and comics can be found in the D section. You’ll find the traditional Saturday comics on D2 and the Sunday color comics starting on D3. You’ll see Saturday and Sunday puzzle pages on D6 and D7.

While we’ll no longer publish a Sunday newspaper, we will continue to post new content throughout the weekend. You can find that on concordmonitor.com.

And as of this weekend, readers have a whole new way of reading Concord Monitor news. Download the Concord Monitor app at the Apple store or on the Android platform. Our updated app still includes the digital newspaper replica, called the E-Edition. As soon as we post a story, you’ll be able to read it in the app. You can also select your own news feed, set it up to receive news alerts, optimize the reading experience with the size font you like best and pick the color background that’s easiest for you to read. You can also choose between three different story layouts.

We see our app as a compliment to our offerings, and one that gives readers the greatest ability to customize their reading experience.

This is the second big addition we’ve brought to our readers in recent weeks. The first was the inclusion of more than 10 years of print replica archives available through the app and on desktop.

Coming next will be the launch of Puzzmo. These new digital puzzles can be played on your laptop, tablet or smartphone, and you’ll be able to track your own scoring and see how you measure up against others on the leaderboard. You’ll have access to five daily puzzles, including crossword, two other word-based games, a spatial puzzle and a version of chess that’ll challenge your sense of the game. Be on the lookout for the launch of these puzzles. We think you’ll like them.
