A Pittsfield man was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a car Monday night on Route 4 in Chichester.

The crash happened about 7:20 p.m. Monday in Chichester after about an inch of snow had fallen during the day. Police said a four-door sedan driving east spun out of control before being T-boned by a tractor-trailer near the Interstate-393 ramp.

Authorities say the car’s driver, a 23-year-old from Pittsfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver of the truck, Nicu Lucaciu, 46, of East Stroudsburg, Penn., refused medical attention.

Police said Tuesday they’re still contacting family members of the man who died and will likely release his name Wednesday.

Chichester police Chief Patrick Clarke said in a statement the sedan had been attempting to pass in a no passing zone when it spun out on the slippery road into oncoming traffic.

Route 4 was closed until just before midnight as Chichester police documented the scene and the state’s department of environmental services cleaned up fuel and vehicle fluids.

Police continue to investigate.
