Interlakes: Staff agreement contains raise

Thursday, March 09, 2017

Hot topic: The school board is pitching a three-year collective bargaining agreement for its teachers and other licensed staff members and a four-year deal for support staff. Under the agreements, teachers would see a roughly 4 percent annual raise; support staff would get a roughly 10 percent raise in the first year and a 6 percent raise in the following three years. If approved, the agreements would have a collective tax impact of just under 16 cents per $1,000 in assessed property value in Center Harbor, 12 cents in Meredith, and 17 cents in Sandwich.

Budget: The proposed operating budget is $24.3 million, up $377,928 from last year.

If approved, the tax rate will go down an estimated 62 cents per $1,000 assessed property value in Center Harbor, which is about $124 on a $200,000 home. In Meredith, the proposed budget would result in an estimated 45 cent increase on the tax rate, about $90 on a $200,000 home. In Sandwich, the budget would result in an estimated 1 cent decrease on the tax rate, about $2 on a $200,000 home.

Noteworthy articles: The school board is also asking to put $100,000 in a previously established facilities maintenance fund out of the year end surplus.

Contested races: None

When and where: The school district’s annual meeting will be held March 8 at 7 p.m. at the Inter-Lakes High School located at 1 Laker Lane in Meredith.
