The first bona fide winter storm of the season left several inches of thick snow across the region, causing many schools to cancel classes, some downed trees and scattered power outages.

The weather was welcome news for New Hampshire ski resorts, which have been operating almost exclusively on man-made snow this year.

Temperatures on Saturday are expected to reach a high of 35 degrees Fahrenheit and then drop down into the single digits overnight, according to the National Weather Service. Another storm is expected to hit the area Sunday night and into Monday morning, which is expected to cause another messy commute.
