Concord diners have a new place to get their sushi on Loudon Road by way of the Lakes Region.

Koung Sushi Mart opened on Dec. 1 at 239 Loudon Road in the location of the former Cannoli Stop, next to several other small businesses like Batteries and Bulbs, the South Asian Mart and Natural Wellness Center.

Owner Myint Soe opened his first sushi restaurant on Canal Street in Laconia in 2021. The Concord location is his second business and he might open a third location in Manchester, Nashua or maybe Salem.

Since he opened at the start of the month his customer base is slowly increasing, he said.

It has a small menu with traditional sushi offerings like spicy tuna rolls, salmon and avacado rolls, individual pieces of nigiri (raw fish on top of rice) and sashimi. They serve poki bowls, spring rolls, grilled chicken or salmon with rice, and ramen noodle bowls.

However, Soe said he will make custom orders for customers to give them whatever they want.

“I will be between a market and a restaurant style,” Soe said. “My sushi is fresh sushi. I’m not making pre-made.”

He offers family packs of sushi with multiple rolls for less than $25.

“The price is cheap,” he said.

Concord is home to several larger sushi restaurants, like Moritomo on Fort Eddy Road and Ichiban on Manchester Street. Soe hopes to be different by giving customers a place where they can come in and get what they want quickly and take it to go. But he also has a small seating area for people to sit down and eat.

Soe said he chose his Loudon Road location specifically because few sushi restaurants existed in that part of the city and he didn’t want to compete with other businesses that were already established.

The restaurant is yet another place where Concord diners can find cuisine that goes beyond the typical American far, including Street 360, which serves traditional street food from around the world, and Buba Noodle, both on Main Street.

Koung Sushi Mart is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
