I just finished your well-researched and comprehensive series on the Department of Children, Youth and Families in New Hampshire (Monitor, April 9-12).
For those of us who work with children, it is a great relief that all of the problems were reported for the public to read. Many of us see children in danger who receive no help on a regular basis. We blame not only the lack of workers but also the laws in this state that do not protect children.
This series puts not only the state elected representatives on notice but all of New Hampshire voters. Now that you know the system is broken, these children should not be left in neglectful and abusive homes. Vote and support representatives who are willing to make meaningful change. More deaths are inevitable if we do not address this problem immediately.
