A Massachusetts man was arrested on charges that he abused the six-year-old child of his girlfriend, a Concord resident, on February 28.

Yadiel Ortega Montero, 22, of Marlborough, Massachusetts, is facing a felony charge of second-degree assault that accused him of causing bodily injury to a victim under 13 and a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

Investigating a report of possible child abuse on February 27, detectives located the child and mother at a Concord medical facility. They learned that the child had "sustained substantial, non-life threatening injuries while in the care of the child’s mother’s boyfriend,” who fled to Massachusetts, Concord Police said.

Police in Marlborough, Mass. arrested Ortega Montero the following day and held him as a fugitive from justice. He declined bail and was transported to the Merrimack County jail on March 1. His arraignment is scheduled for March 4.

The Division for Children, Youth and Families and Marlborough Police assisted Concord Police in the investigation.
