Linda Kenison

Age: 73

Town of residence: Concord

Occupation: Retired mental health/substance abuse

Incumbent? If so, how many terms: One

Do you support commuter rail funding? Yes. To promote economic growth.

Do you support providing more state money for higher education? Yes, to make it possible for those who cannot afford higher education. It is important to have an educated populous. Job skills are essential to economic growth. More of our college graduates may decide to remain N.H. if better jobs are available. Our system of community-based colleges are absolutely an option to gain job skills.

Do you support pro-gun legislation, such as constitutional carry? No, I do not. We need better gun control measures, including background checks and banning assault weapons. It is astonishing that concealed carry is allowed in the State House. Heated emotional debates on proposed legislation occur. I would hope we don’t have a tragedy before addressing this insanity.

Do you support reauthorizing Medicaid expansion? Yes. I think the Legislature should make Medicaid expansion permanent. This is important for all those insured who were not insured, prior to Medicaid expansion. Permanency is needed for new substance abuse programs/facilities to address the state’s drug abuse; we need more treatment options.

Do you support increasing the minimum wage? Yes, all workers deserve to have a living wage. To start with $12 an hour perhaps will be politically possible. Personally, I would support $15 an hour.

Do you support marijuana legalization or decriminalization? No. My experience as a substance abuse councilor, I am aware of the addiction potential, job loss, family problem and impairment when driving.

What would you like voters to know about your philosophy, principles or priorities? I believe in justice for all, compassion for those who are left behind, and a commitment to level the playing field. Every one, no matter their ethnicity or religion, is treated with respect. Diversity and inclusion enrich our country.
