MV grad qualifies for NCAA championships in 800 run

Merrimack Valley graduate Kristie Schoffield, a freshman on the Boise State track and field team, placed 12th overall in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division I West Prelims, punching her ticket to the national championships in Eugene, Ore., in June.

Schoffield, the 2017 Gatorade New Hampshire Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, set a personal best time of 2:05.18 in the quarterfinals Friday for fifth in her heat and 12th overall. She ran a 2:08.82 in the first round Thursday and advanced to the quarterfinals with the 24th seed.

The semifinals and finals will be held at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 7 and June 9.

Schoffield won the 800 at the New England Outdoor Championships and wrapped her high school career placing second in the 800 at the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle last June.
