It took 161 pitches and 13 strikeouts to get the job done, but Concord High School’s Abby Rochette capped off a brilliant season for the Tide softball team on Saturday with a nine-inning effort in the Division I championship game against Spaulding.

Rochette, a junior and the Gatorade New Hampshire Softball Player of the Year, escaped bases-loaded jams in both the eighth and ninth innings in the circle before scoring the game-winning run as part of the Tide’s 5-4 win over No. 4 Spaulding.

It was the first championship since 2009 for Concord (18-3) and the sixth in program history.

Rochette allowed four runs in the first two innings – a rarity for a player who entered the tournament with a 0.92 earned run average – but quickly settled in from the circle and held Spaulding off the scoreboard over the final seven frames.

She also added an RBI triple in the third that helped cut the deficit to 4-2.
