Matt Richard broke a 21-year-old record for the New England College men’s lacrosse team Saturday in a 21-3 win over Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference play.

The John Stark graduate scored seven goals and dished 10 assists, collecting 17 points to break Tim Weston’s 15-point record from 1996. Richard also tied the single-game record for assists, becoming the first Pilgrim since 1989 to tally 10 helpers in one game. Additionally, Richard tied the school’s single-season record for points with 106.

Daniel Medvetz, another John Stark product, also scored twice and dished two assists in the victory, which clinched a first-round bye in the NAC tournament for the Pilgrims (11-5). They will host a semifinal game Wednesday, May 3.
