The New England College athletic department announced Friday that Maria Lewis will be the new head coach of the women’s ice hockey team.

Lewis, who has nearly 20 years of coaching experience in college hockey, was most recently the head coach at Division III Johnson & Wales University. Lewis started that program from scratch and finished last season with a 9-16-1 record.

Lewis also served as the head coach at Maine after spending 11 years as a D-I assistant at Mercyhurst, Ohio State and the University of North Dakota. She was named the Assistant Coach of the Year twice while at Mercyhurst.

Lewis, a graduate of RIT, becomes the seventh head coach in program history and she’ll take over a team that finished last year with a 5-19-1 record.
