Animal officials, police officers, firefighters and concerned New Hampshire residents have helped free a little duckling that got stuck in a drain.

Somersworth officials and residents mobilized to help free the duckling Wednesday, which fell into a storm drain while trying to cross the road with his mother and siblings. Foster’s Daily Democrat reports the duckling was carried over to a nearby pond once he was freed, where firefighters believed the mother duck was heading toward.

Somersworth Fire Lt. Mike Clough called the duckling a “stubborn little fellow,” noting that ducklings frequently fall into storm drains during this time of year.

Clough said firefighters are called for a duckling rescue about three or four times a year.
