A 57-year-old woman from Amherst died in a skiing accident over the weekend, the second fatality in as many years, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.
Susan Galli was reported overdue to the Franconia Police Department on Sunday afternoon and her vehicle was located a short time later in the Cannon Mountain parking lot, according to Fish and Game Lt. James Kneeland.
Members of the Cannon Mountain Ski Patrol, Cannon Mountain grooming operations, Fish and Game conservation officers, and officers from Franconia Police Department searched for Galli throughout the night, eventually finding her body about 3:30 a.m.
Galli was found a short distance off the Taft Slalom trail, Kneeland reported. She died of injuries she received when she skied off the trail into the woods.
Last March, a 29 year-old man from Massachusetts was killed in an accident at Cannon. His body was found about 40 feet into the woods off the Upper Ravine Trail, near the top of the mountain and close to Taft Slalom, where Galli was found.
