Sanbornton: Fire equipment fund could be discontinued

Hot topic: The town will vote on discontinuation of the “Emergency Medical Service Fire and Rescue Apparatus, Equipment and Vehicles Special Revenue Fund,” allowing its balance of $273,004 to be returned to the general fund. Town Administrator Katie Ambrose said many opinions have been voiced regarding this article at both a public hearing and in local newspapers. The article is not recommended by selectmen or budget committee.

Budget: The proposed operating budget is 3.86 million, up from $3.78 million from last year.

Contested races: Three candidates are running for two three-year terms on the budget committee: John Vorel, Roger Grey and Ralph Rethjen. Justin Barriault and Bill Whalen are running for a two-year term on the budget committee. David Nickerson and Katy North are vying for a three-year term on the select board. Tom Salatiello and Timothy Lang are running for the moderator position.

When and where: The town meeting will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Sanbornton Central School. Ballot voting will be Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Old Town Hall.
