The season didn’t end in confetti, but Scott Spenard was a driving force for the Coe-Brown boys’ basketball team all year long and made sure the Bears were one of the last teams standings.

Spenard helped Coe-Brown reach its first state title game since 2003 with a game-high 18 points in a 63-52 win over No. 2 Milford in the Division II semifinals on Wednesday on his way to being named the Monitor Player of the Week.

Coe-Brown (18-4) leaned on Spenard heavily early in the semifinals as he scored seven straight points for the Bears in the closing minutes of the first quarter to swing the momentum and help knock off one of the championship favorites.

Looking to finish the job in the title game at UNH on Saturday, Spenard scored six points to go along with four assists on a day where the offense never got going in a 59-42 loss to No. 1 Lebanon.

The 18 victories for the Bears this season were a seven-win improvement from last year’s 11-9 team.
