16-year-old driver airlifted after Sanbornton crash on I-93

A 16-year-old driver had to be airlifted to the hospital following an early morning crash Monday.

State police said they responded to the southbound lane of Interstate 93 in Sanbornton at 3:30 a.m. to find a 2000 Honda Accord crashed into a tree on the left side of the roadway.

A 16-year-old driver, the only person in the car, was trapped until fire and rescue personnel extricated him. He was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police did not release the name of the driver and are investigating the crash. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call state trooper Janell Smith of Troop D at 271-3636.
