The Paper Store at Fort Eddy Plaza will undergo a significant expansion as it relocates to a larger space within the plaza, currently occupied by Eastern Mountain Sports, the shopping center’s owners confirmed Wednesday.

After EMS closes its current store at the plaza, The Paper Store will move into 13,270 square feet of space currently occupied by the outdoor gear retailer.

The Paper Store’s current space at the plaza is 8,800 square feet.

“The relocation of our Concord store will be the first of many new signature store locations for us in the Northeast, and my family and I are proud to reinvest back into the community that has supported our company for so many years,” Paper Store President and CEO Tom Anderson said in a statement. “We are thrilled to open our newest store at Fort Eddy Plaza given the center’s strong local connection and ability to drive traffic during all hours of the day.”

The expansion will introduce a range of new in-store services like ear piercing, a candy station, curated gifts and a selection of popular, trendy brands.

It is expected to open its doors in April.

Along with EMS, Rite Aid pharmacy in the plaza was added this week to the list of stores that will close. The owners have also listed for lease the 32,000-square-foot space occupied by Books a Million, but the manager said the store has no plans to close or relocate at this time. EMS is expected to reopen at a new location in Concord.

The changing face of the plaza doesn’t stop there.

Owner Torrington Properties announced the arrival of Jersey Mike’s Subs, marking the first business addition since the plaza’s acquisition in 2022.

“Tenant demand has been significant at Fort Eddy Plaza as it continues to attract high-quality retailers. The recent long-term leases with The Paper Store and Jersey Mike’s demonstrate Torrington’s commitment to delivering a superior experience at grocery-anchored plazas throughout the Granite State,” Matt Morgan, Torrington’s principal and chief operating officer, said in a statement.

Fort Eddy Plaza currently holds a Shaw’s supermarket and Staples office supply store, along with several smaller tenants like GameStop, Moritomo Japanese restaurant and Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

The shopping center off Exit 14 of Interstate 93 was built in the late 1970s on what had been corn fields. Eddy Plaza Associates LLC owned it until it was sold to Boston-based Torrington Properties in January for $30 million.
