BelmontOfficials investigating dozens of thefts

Belmont police are investigating two dozen thefts from unlocked vehicles parked in the areas of Province and Hoadley Roads.

Loose change, credit cards, cash and a purse were reported stolen during the latest spree of thefts, which occurred late Saturday night into Sunday morning, police said.

One resident woke up to a noise early Sunday morning and saw a person running away, police said. Officers immediately responded to the area and spoke with several residents who had reported items missing from their vehicles. Two people wearing hooded sweatshirts and baseball caps were seen roaming the area, police said.

Residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles and to secure valuable items out of sight. They also noted that motion-activated lights and security systems are often deterrents to thieves and will alert residents in real time to crimes on their property.

Anyone with information is asked to call Belmont police at 267-8350.
