Gun range is a zoning issue

The community of Warner and its neighbors have taken notice of an attempt to bring a gun store and range to Warner. Those in favor of this proposal would like you to think this is about gun safety and gun rights. They are pleased that this is being framed by some as an issue that is about gun owners, safety and their rights. Many folks in Warner know this is a zoning issue and strongly oppose this proposal as it does not meet the criteria for a special exception, nor is it in line with Warner’s master plan.

In order to receive a zoning special exception the applicant must show that this use is within the current zoning table of uses, “essential or desirable,” and “the requested use will not impair the integrity or character of the district or adjoining districts, nor be detrimental to the health, morals or welfare.”

The Warner Zoning Board of Adjustment has heard from many community members who are familiar with the zoning regulations and oppose this use. This proposal does not meet the criteria necessary for a special exception.
