Words of exaggeration

Regarding the Aug. 7 letter headlined “Resisting the truth”: Bill Bunker’s letter is not easy for me to follow. However, I agree with him that describing New Hampshire as “a drug-infested den” is a gross exaggeration of a half truth. Any logical person who objects to such gross exaggeration does not have to be a Marxist or a fascist supporter. The reaction as “outraged” or “offended” is merely a comparable exaggeration. Words have an effect, so misuse of exaggeration is intended to have an effect. The response that Bunker criticizes is just the same – to have an effect. The rest of his words do not add anything to the way that ordinary people should react.
