A Pembroke resident needs help finding her greyhound, which ran away on Monday.
Jordan Graustark was taking Gigi and another dog, both galgas, or Spanish greyhounds, out of her car at the Pembroke Animal Hospital when the dogs spooked and bolted across Route 106. The other dog came back, but Gigi is still missing.
Gigi is brown, with white on her face, neck, feet and tail. She is about a year old and, at 35 pounds, is very small and slight for her breed. She is wearing a beige harness and tag collar. She was last spotted on Monday at the intersection of Borough and Staniels roads, near the Chichester town line.
Graustark brought Gigi to New Hampshire from a rescue group in Barcelona in September. Because of the treatment she received in Spain, where galgas are bred for hunting and often abused, she is afraid of all people, Graustark said.
“We are desperately, desperately dependent on people who sight her not to chase after her,” she said.
Anyone who sees Gigi should not approach her and should call Graustark or the Pembroke Animal Hospital immediately, Graustark said. If possible, they should try putting out food to see if she might come back again.
Graustark can be reached at 226-3624 or 340-0973. The Pembroke Animal Hospital can be reached at 228-0019.
