Best of both worlds

As a mother, I understand the struggle many mothers face when it seems they are forced to choose between staying home raising children and working full-time ("Part-time looks fine to working mothers," Monitor, July 12).

I have been a full-time working mother and a stay-at-home mother without a second income. Now I work out of my home while raising my children. It's a personal choice for everyone, but being able to bring in an income while staying home with the children offers a perfect balance.

For six years I have worked as a consultant for a direct-selling company, affording me the flexibility to set my own schedule while earning money for family expenses. I can easily arrange for home parties to fit into my life so I don't have to miss birthday parties, soccer games and the other great events that often full-time working mothers miss out on.

I also get a chance to socialize and have fun with my friends and fellow moms, all while making an income and earning trips and other incentives. Many women work as representatives for direct-selling companies precisely because of the flexibility.

I hope you let all your readers know that direct sales are a great way for moms to have the best of both worlds!
