SANBORNTON - James Frederick Grotton Jr., 61, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at home surrounded by his family.

James was born Jan. 11, 1946, in Gardiner, Maine, the son of Fred and Rita (Hopkins) Grotton. He was happily married to Diane (Prescott) Grotton for 43 years.

He was part owner of the Pipeline Co., Everett J. Prescott in Concord for 30 years. He left the business in 1995 to travel the country with his wife following the NASCAR racing success of his son-in-law. In 1999, he purchased land on the shores of Lake Winnisquam and built their dream house. Jim enjoyed working, golfing, watching the Red Sox and Patriots, and his family.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by their three children, Carman Alenson, Erik Grotton and Cathleen Craven; and nine grandchildren.

The death of his oldest grandson, James F. Alenson, in January brought him much sadness. James is also survived by his mother, three brothers, a sister, and several nephews and nieces.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the carriage house at Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St. in Laconia.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church, Upper Bay Road, Sanbornton, where the Rev. Dr. Robert Robertson, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to the James F. Alenson Memorial Fund, c/o Diane Elenbaas, the Boston Foundation, 75 Arlington St., Boston 02116; or to the Second Baptist Church of Sanbornton, 298 Upper Bay Road, Sanbornton 03269.
