November 11, 2007 - 12:00 am

Top-ranked Ohio State's national title hopes teetered on a timeout, the ball inches from a first down for Illinois.

Illini coach Ron Zook changed his mind, decided to go for it on fourth down and that was the beginning of the end for the Buckeyes' hopes of redeeming themselves in this season's national championship game.

It was the first time Illinois (8-3, 5-2 Big Ten) had beaten a No. 1 since 1956, and the first time it had done it away from home. The defeat also ended a conference and school streak of 20 Big Ten wins in a row by Ohio State (10-1, 6-1).

No. 4 Oklahoma 52, Baylor 21

DeMarco Murray provided the style points for Oklahoma as the Sooners made their argument to move up in the Bowl Championship Series rankings.

The freshman running back scored four touchdowns, one on a 91-yard kickoff return, as No. 4 Oklahoma improved to 9-1.

No. 7 Missouri 40, Texas A&M 26

Jeremy Maclin caught two touchdown passes, one to pull No. 7 Missouri out of late trouble and the other on the school's longest reception in 31 years.

Chase Daniel threw three touchdown passes for Missouri (9-1, 5-1 Big 12), which reached nine victories for the first time since 1969 and only the fourth time in school history. The Tigers scored nine points in the final 3:44 on Maclin's 12-yard grab and a safety when Lorenzo Williams sacked Stephen McGee in the end zone to avert a second-half collapse.

No. 9 Arizona State 24, UCLA 20

Arizona State's Rudy Carpenter, who grew up in the Los Angeles suburbs, was happy the Sun Devils finally won a game in the Rose Bowl.

There are many possible scenarios left for the Sun Devils (9-1, 6-1 Pac-10), including a shot at the conference title and a berth in the Rose Bowl Game.

No. 10 Georgia 45, No. 18 Auburn 20

Now that he's no longer calling plays, Mark Richt has more time to think of ways to fire up his players.

The Georgia coach came up with another winner yesterday.
