Camera crews from the A&E show "Sell This House" trekked through the Concord area last weekend to film three houses that are stuck on the market and in desperate need of a facelift. Ofe Polack, a Manchester real estate agent who is representing the sellers, tells us more about the show and how to unload a home in this market.
What's the premise of the show? What they do first is interview the sellers, people who have had their homes on the market for a little bit and have not been able to sell it. Then they come back and do an open house, people come in and critique the house . . . and then they do a redesign.
Which houses did you choose? We ended up with a condo at Mulberry Village in Concord that had been on the market for two years. And another that is an equestrian property (in Pembroke) that's been on the market for three years. And then the other is a farmhouse style in the Suncook Valley in Epsom.
What do you recommend people do to their houses to help them sell? Usually it's to declutter. Start packing right now. If the house was built in the '80s, there were certain colors, like the greens and the oranges. You try to remove that.
What's the biggest challenge facing sellers right now? Oh God, pricing. I just had an offer. It was withdrawn three days ago because they believe the prices are going to go down.
When is the show going to air? Sometime at the end of the month.
