Swimming results

Carter Pribis of Concord and Richard Jenkins of Bow qualified for Zones while competing in the New England LCM Open Championships on July 25-28 at Harvard University. Pribis made the "Zone cut" in all nine of his events, placing first in 13-14-year-old category in the 100-meter freestyle, 100 backstroke (13th overall) and 200 backstroke. He was second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 200 IM, 50 and 400 freestyle.

Richard Jenkins had a successful meet by qualifying for Zones in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, setting PRs in all four of the events he swam. Hooksett's Christina Denbow placed 22nd out of 74 swimmers in the 200 breaststroke and fourth in the 13/14s in the 100 breaststroke, qualifying to swim both at Zones. Kyle Deland competed in the 100 and 200 butterfly events.

Concord Flyers results

The Concord Flyers track team closed out their 17th season with an open meet in Manchester on Thursday. Peggy Shemitz-Wagner and Sarah Gudas grabbed first and second, respectively, in the 9-year-old 50-meter dash, while Gillian Bennett (13:48) secured second place in the open 3,200. Jessica Moir was second in the 200.

• In 10-year-old action, Mia McSweeney zipped to first in the 50 and third (15:36) in the 3,200. Kaela Healy was second in the 200.

• 11-year-olds Anna Fraser (200) and Kaelin Willette (800) ran to victories in their respective events. Willette was also second in the 50. Brooke Heiser, 12, was first in the 200, while Melissa Harper took second in the 50.

Sunset League finals

The Concord Sunset League finals start on Monday at Memorial Field at 6 p.m. The matchup will be the Wildcats vs. Century 21.

Lions Club 5K

The Hopkinton Lions Club will hold its 18th annual 5K Road Race and 2.5-mile Fitness walk on Oct. 11. The race begins at 11 a.m. All proceeds go to benefit the Lions Sight and Hearing Programs. Contact Ted Story at 746-4347.

Fall ball

MVP Baseball/Softball Academy has just announced its seven-week fall ball season, which will consist of Step-up, middle school, freshman and JV teams. The leagues begin Sept. 6. Baseball tryouts

The 2009 NH Grizzlies AAU baseball teams (12s, 13s, 14s, 15s) will try out Aug. 17 at Campbell High School in Litchfield and Aug. 24 at Griffin Memorial School in Litchfield. Times and all info are posted at nhgrizzlies.com.
