CHATEAUGAY, N.Y. - Joseph Anthony Smith, 38, of Hartnett Road, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.

Born in Concord on Feb. 7, 1971, he was the son of Leo Smith and Kathleen (Jennings) Buxton. His father predeceased him April 22, 2009.

He was married to Roselyn Libunao on Sept. 23, 2003.

Mr. Smith served in the National Guard ROTC. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay, N.Y., and a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed helping with community projects and helping older people. He loved his motorcycle and enjoyed gardening, music, animals, and playing chess with his father, wife and Pat O'Connor. His wife and daughter were the joy of his life and he loved them very much.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of five years; his mother of Chateaugay, N.Y.; his daughter, Kristine "Jen Jen" Smith at home; a brother, Thomas Michael Smith of Grafton; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Barbara M. and Joseph Wiggin of Danbury, Sandra Lee Smith of Burke, N.Y., Susan Mary and Jeffrey Kielly of Bellmont, N.Y., and Cheryl Anne and Dennis Ouellette of Claremont; nieces, nephews and their companions, Nicole Radford and family, Benjamin Carlisle and Sasha, Jason Costello and Heather, Stephanie Costello and Tim, Alex Pappas, Thomas Fredette and family, Ian Blackmore, Elizabeth Kielly, Justin Ouellette and family, and Trevor Ouellette and Lynette; his stepmother, Teeny Smith of Salisbury; a stepbrother, Steve Puleo and his family; a stepsister, Anita Fleming and her family; his loving family in the Philippines; godmother Terry Lovejoy; godfather Gerard Smith; a beloved father figure to Joe, Clifford Donah; and his dogs Cocoa, Baby Girl and Little Joe.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held July 4 at 5 p.m. at the family home, Hartnett Road, Chateaugay, N.Y. Fireworks will follow at dusk.

Chateaugay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
