Final homestand: The New Hampshire Fisher Cats begin their final homestand of the regular season with a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators. First pitch is at 7:05 each night.

Go off road: In this heat, take your running off road at the 2nd annual Elm Brook State Park X-C race, beginning at 6 p.m. from the park in Contoocook.

Soccer openers: It's opening day for high school soccer, with a full slate of games in the area. Neighboring rivals meet in many games, with MV at Brady, Bow at Pembroke, Kearsarge at John Stark, and Belmont at Winnisquam on the boys' side, while the girls have Brady at MV, Pembroke at Bow, and John Stark at Kearsarge.

Golf and X-C, too: High school golf and cross-country teams get in on the opening-day action, as well, with Bow hosting Brady, MV and Pembroke on the links, and Gilford hosting an early bird invitational in cross country with most area teams attending.

From Japan to Manchester: Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka makes a rehab start for the Portland Sea Dogs when they visit Manchester to take on the Fisher Cats. The doubleheader starts at 5:05 p.m.
