September 10, 2009 - 6:52 am

Fred Keach and Jan McClure have added their names to the list of city councilors running for re-election.

Midway through the filing period, only Jim Baer and Amanda Grady have emerged as new candidates for city council seats. No one has signed up to challenge Mayor Jim Bouley, who is running for re-election.

By ward, the candidates seeking council seats are: Liz Blanchard in Ward 1, McClure in Ward 3, Grady in Ward 4, Robert Werner in Ward 5, Allen Bennett in Ward 6, Keith Nyhan in Ward 7, Dick Patten in Ward 8, and Baer and Dan St. Hilaire for at-large seats.

Current city councilors Douglas Black and Dick Lemieux are not running for re-election.

City elections are Nov. 3. Filings will be accepted at the city clerk's office through Monday.

Halfway through the filing period, two candidates are registered to run for four school board positions. School board President Kass Ardinger and member Chris Casko have filed to run for three-year terms. Member Clint Cogswell said this week he will also run for re-election.

Voters will cast their ballot Nov. 3 to fill the three three-year terms and single one-year term. Anyone wishing to declare candidacy must file before 5 p.m. Monday with Roger Phillips at 104 Pleasant St. Candidates must bring a petition signed by 50 voters or pay a $5 fee.

Horn explores run for Congress

Republican Jennifer Horn has announced that she will end her radio show tomorrow to consider a run for U.S. Congress.

"It is no secret to anyone that I am strongly considering a run for US Congress in the Second District," Horn wrote in a statement posted on her website. "The time has come for me to give this my full attention. I look forward to talking with my friends and supporters throughout the district in the weeks and months ahead as I go through the process of making a final decision."

The radio show, On The Air With Jennifer Horn, started in 2006. It took a one-year break in 2008, when Horn was the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress. She lost the election to U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes.
