The police have identified the motorist who was killed Friday in Stoddard when a tractor-trailer collided with a sports car he was driving.
Christopher Herlihy, 52, of Henniker was at the wheel of a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro, pulling out of Hayes Car & Truck Repair to make a left turn onto Route 9 east, when it was struck about 5:45 p.m. in the driver's side by a westbound 2005 International tractor-trailer, according to the state police.
Herlihy was pronounced dead at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene. The car had no other occupants. The truck driver, Tracy Talbot, 49, of Lebanon, Maine, was treated at the crash site for minor injuries and then released.
The crash remains under investigation, and preliminary information indicates that alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the incident.
According to an obituary, Herlihy was a longtime employee of National Grange Mutual in Keene and an avid runner who also enjoyed baseball, sports trivia and participating in Civil War re-enactments. He was a graduate of Dover High School and the University of New Hampshire.
