CHRIS WILLIAMS of Meredith received the 2009 Lakes Region Community Leadership Award. This was the second year that the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation Lakes Region has teamed up with Leadership Lakes Region to offer an award. Williams was recognized for his contributions over the last 25 years to the betterment of Meredith and the greater Lakes Region.

WILLIAM CHAPMAN, a nationally-recognized leader in fighting for open government and free press, will be honored at the seventh annual Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications First Amendment awards Nov. 12 in Manchester. Chapman, of the Concord law firm of Orr and Reno, has been representing New Hampshire media outlets for 37 years. He has argued dozens of cases involving access to records and government proceedings that has helped set the standard for protecting reporters' sources in criminal cases and public access to court and government records.

MARK COLLIN of North Hampton has been elected chair of New Hampshire Public Television's Board of Directors for 2009-10. Collin is senior vice president, CFO and treasurer of Unitil Corp. STEVEN ALBRECHT, CEO of Charter Trust Co., is the board's new vice chair; RICHARD MALONEY, president of Maloney and Kennedy PLLC, is board treasurer; RONALD ABRAMSOM, of counsel at McLane, Graf, Raulerson and Middleton, will serve as secretary. MARJORIE CHIAFERY, immediate past chair and superintendent of the Merrimack School District, will continue on the board. LOIS HASKINS of LGH Consulting and ANGELA IRONS of the Lincoln Financial Group have joined the board. GEORGE EPSTEIN has joined as a representative of the University System of New Hampshire.

SUSAN NOON of Durham has joined the Bi-State Primary Care Association's Concord office as the new director of marketing and development. Noon has 16 years experience in nonprofit marketing, public relations and development communications. Most recently, she served as the program and communications director at the New Hampshire Bar Foundation in Concord.

Business owners, managers and state representatives attended the Lakes Region Association's 73rd annual business meeting Oct. 7 dockside on the M/S Mount Washington in Weirs Beach. The following officers were elected: BRAD LIPE, the Laker, as president; FREDERIC CLAUSEN, Proctor's Lakehouse Cottages, as immediate past president; GAIL BATSTONE, Inns and Spa at Mill Falls, as first vice president; GREG GODDARD, Gunstock Mountain Resort, as second vice president; MEL BORRIN, Preferred Vacation Rentals, as treasurer and the secretary seat remained vacant for the time being. Directors elected by the full membership were SEAN BROWN, Common Man Family of Restaurants; PAM PATOINE, Courtyard by Marriott and Grappone Conference Center; DYAN DRISCOLL, Cozy Inn and Cottages/Lakeview House and Cottages; MARY ELLEN DUTTON, Kellerhaus; MARY LAMPREY BARE, Lamprey and Lamprey; JIM MORASH, M/S Mount Washington Cruises; DEB IRWIN, Manor on Golden Pond; PATRICIA POORE, Member at Large; DOUG CUTILLO, Steele Hill Resorts; DAVID DOYLE, Sun Valley Cottages; THOMAS BOUCHER, T-Bones Great American Eatery/Cactus Jack's Grill and Watering Hole; and KAREN BERANGER, Wolfeboro Inn.

The Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of New Hampshire elected officers for 2009-10 at their annual installation banquet Sept. 30 at the Mount Washington Hotel. The following officers were elected: EDWIN DUVALL, president of Lakeside Insurance Agency Inc./C&G Insurance, chairman of the board; ROBIN LOGEL, marketing manager of Noyes Insurance Agency, chairman elect; RYAN TOWLE, vice president of the Davis and Towel Group in Concord, vice chairman; DEAN MERRILL, president of Tobey and Merrill Inc., national director; and MARC BERUBE, principal and owner of Eaton and Berube Insurance Agency, immediate past chairman. Elected to the board of directors were LEWIS BARNES of Kapiloff Insurance, BRYAN BERNIER of Chittenden Insurance Group, HARVEY BERNIER of Bernier Insurance Inc., CHRISTOPHER ELDREDGE of McCrillis and Eldredge Insurance Inc., CHARLES HAMLIN of Infantine Insurance, KEN HOYT of Wainwright Insurance Services, WILLIAM INFANTINE of Aspen Insurance Agency, THOMAS MINKLER of Clark-Mortenson Agency, CHRISTOPHER SHARPE of Brown and Brown of New Hampshire and SUSAN SIEGEL of Rowley Agency.

ANTONIO BASTOS has joined Associated Grocers of New England as a meat and deli buyer/merchandiser. Most recently, Bastos managed the product buying in ice cream and frozen grocery, bakery and meat categories for C&S Wholesale Grocers.

DAVID LAW of Concord, TIMOTHY BRITAIN of Hopkinton and MICHELLE ARRUDA of Contoocook of the Concord law firm Cleveland, Waters and Bass have been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America.
