November 03, 2009 - 12:00 am

The Belmont man arrested Thursday on sexual assault charges following a four-hour standoff with the police was charged with nine additional offenses yesterday.

The new charges against Shayne Chase, 44, include five counts of rape, two counts of manufacturing child pornography and two counts of possessing child pornography, according to Belmont police Chief Vinnie Baiocchetti.

Chase, already jailed on Thursday's charges of two counts of rape and one of simple assault, was arraigned in Laconia District Court on the new charges yesterday.

The court, however, declined to release the complaints or the affidavit that detail the allegations because the judge was still reading them. Chase was ordered held on $50,000 cash only bail.

Baiocchetti and Belmont police prosecutor Dave Estes declined yesterday to elaborate on the charges.

The police arrested Chase on Thursday after a teenage girl called the police and said Chase had been sexually assaulting her for some time, Baiocchetti said last week.

Belmont detectives called in a regional SWAT team to arrest Chase at his mobile home at 96 Scenic Drive because he was thought to be armed with a bow and arrow, muzzleloader and at least one rifle, Baiocchetti said.

The police evacuated about 60 residents near Chase's home and used gas during the four hours Chase held them at bay, the police said.

Chase is due back in court Monday at 9 a.m. for a probable cause hearing. He is being represented by the public defender office.
