November 04, 2009 - 12:00 am

A 36-year-old woman was hit by an elderly driver yesterday evening while crossing Loudon Road, the police said.

The pedestrian, whom the police didn't immediately identify last night, suffered leg injuries and was taken to the hospital, the police said. Her condition was not available last night.

Lt. Walter Carroll said the pedestrian was in a crosswalk, crossing from the south side of Loudon Road to the north side, near McDonald's. She crossed when the red light had signaled drivers to stop, Carroll said.

The 87-year-old driver, whom the police did not identify last night, did not see the red light or the pedestrian, the police said. Carroll said it did not appear that alcohol or speed were factors in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation. Carroll said no charges have been filed.

This is the second pedestrian hit in two days. On Monday, 18-year-old Annalisa Mitchell was hit by a 70-year-old driver while crossing Village Street in Penacook. Mitchell suffered serious head injuries and remains hospitalized.

The police continue to investigate that accident, which happened about 2:45 p.m. near the intersection of Village and Stark streets. Mitchell was hit by the woman driving south on Village Street, the police said.

Deputy Chief John Duval said the police have not yet concluded what factors, if any, contributed to the accident. The driver stopped at the scene and has been cooperative with the police, he said. No one has been charged, and Duval said it's still too early in the investigation to know whether charges will be filed.

Merrimack Valley High School officials said Mitchell was not a student at the school. Attempts to reach her family were unsuccessful yesterday.
