HOOKSETT - Robert E. Macdonald, 83, of Merrimack Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Harris Hill Health Care Center in Concord.

Born Nov. 23, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Macdonald was the son of Roy and Eleanor May Macdonald.

He was raised on Long Island and graduated from Fort Skyler, N.Y., Maritime Academy. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served with the Merchant Marine from 1945 to 1949.

He had been employed by IBM as a repair technician and later joined the Peace Corps with his wife for a short time.

Bob was a family man who loved his time with family and friends. He enjoyed working in the garden and outdoors around the yard. He loved to be involved in whatever was going on.

He was predeceased by his brother, William Macdonald.

Members of his surviving family include his wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen (Thrasher) Macdonald of Hooksett; four children, Randy Macdonald and his wife, Judy, of Meredith, Doug Macdonald and his wife, Jeanne, of Hooksett, Dee Macdonald of Westwood, Mass., and Donna Bradford and her husband, Bob, of Allenstown; five grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; and one stepgreat-grandson.

Calling hours and services will not be held at this time.

Next spring there will be a barbecue by the pool for a celebration of his life as he wished. He will be greatly missed but always remembered in our hearts!

Memorial donations may be made to the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association Hospice House, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord 03301.
