A Northfield mobile home went up in flames yesterday in what fire officials are calling an accidental blaze that caused $150,000 in damage.
Firefighters from the Franklin and Tilton-Northfield departments responded about 11:30 yesterday morning to reports of a building fire at 20 Mount Tugg Road. When they got there, they saw smoke and fire coming from one end of a mobile home.
Though firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames with a hose, the fire had spread into the walls and ceiling, as well as in between the original roof and pitched roof built by the owner. Crews spent until 2:30 in the afternoon extinguishing the fire.
"Overhaul was extensive, time-consuming and labor-intensive," Tilton-Northfield fire Chief Stephen Carrier wrote in a press release. He said the fire's cause is "undetermined at this time, however it appears to be accidental."
Nobody was injured in the fire, including the home's owner, who was in his yard when he noticed smoke blackening one of the windows. A neighbor called the fire department.
