Youth hockey
The Capital Area Dentistry Peewee 2 Concord Capitals continued its winning ways by defeating Methuen, 7-0, in Valley League action. Isabel Stoddard was a force all game, recording a goal and an assist. Danny Foynes, Alex Marceau, Erik Swenson, Hannah Brochu, Adrian McCarthy-Tiella, and Paul Wiley also scored. Colin Holt picked up the shutout.
• The Concord Capitals Delta Dental Bantam 4 team lost to NH East, 8-2. Wingers, Josh Lambert and JD Martin scored for Delta. Brandon Starkweather and Zach Zebhlik played well defensively.
• The Concord Capitals Dream Strategy Mite 1 proved to be a worthy opponent to the Northern Cyclone Squirt W in Seacoast action. Kyle Chauvette was strong in net, turning aside 18 shots. Ryan Methven, playing defense for the first time this year, had a strong, aggressive game. Nate Lamontagne was equally tough on the Cyclones on the blue line. Logan Otto poked home the only Concord goal on a rebound off a shot by Nate Benoit.
• The Concord Capitals Squirt 2 team came away with a victory against the Laconia Lakers Squirt 1. Brandon Tibbetts had two goals to lead the offense, while Matt Tremblay added one goal. Thomas Burns, Dan LeBell and Colin Chase each added an assist. Oliver Quinn was solid between the pipes.
Golf results
Mark Coen defeated Tom Dustin in a sudden-death playoff to capture Beaver Meadow Golf Course's Willie Campbell Cup. The year long points race saw Glen Schadlick finish second followed by Glen Shattuck in third and Dae Young Ko in fourth.
PSU results
New Hampshire Technical Institute was the host site for the 10th annual Jacob's Bridge through Autism Basketball Classic. In the first game of the classic, Plymouth State University topped New England College, 65-45. Leading the Panthers was Mike Chergey with 18 points and three steals. In addition, Tom Dowd added 17 points, and former NHTI standout Ryan Lambert netted 11 points, while grabbing five rebounds.
• Senior Laura Kent and sophomore Alicia Doucet combined for 48 points and 25 rebounds as the Plymouth State University women's basketball team tipped off the 2009-10 season with a 72-51 decision over Johnson & Wales University in a non-conference contest.
• Eighth-seeded Plymouth State University limited fourth-seeded WPI to just three shots and zero penalty corners on its way to a 3-0 shutout in the semifinal game of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Field Hockey Championship at the University of New England. The Panthers (12-8) will play host and second-seeded UNE in today's final scheduled for 6 p.m.
• The Plymouth State University wrestling team split its first two dual matches of the season at American International College, defeating Seton Hill University (Pa.) in the opener, 26-17, but falling to host AIC in the second match, 23-16. Each school finished 1-1 on the day as Seton Hill defeated AIC, 24-15. Sophomores Jake Gagnon and Josh Huber led the Panthers with two victories apiece. Gagnon pinned his Seton Hill opponent in the 285-pound weight class and posted a 6-5 decision against AIC, while Huber recorded a major decision against AIC at 133 pounds after receiving a forfeit win at 125 against Seton Hill.
Colby-Sawyer results
Trailing until the final two minutes of the game, Keene State College held on to defeat Colby-Sawyer College, 85-82, in game two of the Jacob's Bridge tournament. Derek D'Amours set a new tournament record, scoring 33 points for Keene. He broke the previous record of 30 set by Nick Pelotte of PSU in 2002. Jon Chaloux netted 21 points and pulled in 11 rebounds to lead the Chargers. Corey Willis added 13 points and four assists, while David Rosso netted 16 points in the loss.
