MY FAVORITE movie is Kundun, directed by Martin Scorsese. It is the story of the Dalai Lama's early years and his escape from Tibet. It is an artistic masterpiece. Every scene is exquisitely crafted. And it is deeply spiritual.
I have to add a second all-time favorite: Lawrence of Arabia. It had a profound effect on me as a teenager because, for the first time in my life, I was introduced to a person who was able to enter another culture and become accepted as a member of that culture.

I HAVE TO agree with you that Dr. Zhivago is the best. I have a copy that I watch regularly, and I sometimes read Robert Bolt's screenplay. I have never been able to read the novel.
