Daniel Rodriguez, the "Singing policeman" who burst onto the music scene with his stirring renditions of "God Bless America" after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, will perform at the Concord City Auditorium on Sunday night at 7:30. Rodriguez, a promising singer who'd given up opera to support his family, was a New York City policeman at the time of the attacks and was just two blocks from the World Trade Center when it collapsed. A designated national anthem singer in the NYPD's ceremonial unit, he began singing for memorial services and special functions and soon caught the attention of the national media. Rodriguez has since become a professional singer, performing all over the world, winning numerous awards and releasing several CDs.
The concert is presented by the Concord Community Concert Association. Individual tickets are $26. Concord Community Concert Association memberships are $52 and include admission to two other upcoming concerts: the Hunt Family Fiddlers in February and world music ensemble Nube in March. Tickets are available at Gibson's Bookstore and Ballard's Party and Novelty Shop by calling 225-7474. For more information, visit concordcommunityconcerts.org.
